Geoffrey 1st
returned to Vietnam in 1985 as a
photojournalist. He was able to gain the trust of the Vietnamese government and
became one of the few foreign photographers allowed to take unrestricted photos
around the country. Instead of focusing on all of the problems the country had,
he was able to show Americans that there was another side to Vietnam. That it
was in fact a country full of its people, and not simply a war. His breathtaking
photography has become a valued historical document and some of it is shown in
the film. His best work can be seen in his book Vietnam: The Land That WeNever Knew. Some of his work was also on display around the
capital when the US Congress was voting on early legislation about trade with Vietnam.
